The short version

  • From October 19, 2026, Poshmark sellers pay the full $50 USPS hazmat noncompliance fee if USPS flags their package (Poshmark blog, October 5, 2026).
  • USPS started charging the $50 fee on July 12, 2026. Until now Poshmark covered most of it for sellers.
  • The most common cause is not the item. It is a reused box with old hazmat labels or markings on it.

What changed

Poshmark's blog post of October 5, 2026 says: "As of July 12, 2026, USPS began charging a $50 hazmat noncompliance fee on packages" that carry hazardous material markings or are not shipped under USPS hazmat rules. "Starting October 19, 2026, sellers will be responsible for the $50 fee if USPS flags their package."

Poshmark's selling fees do not change.

What it means for your business

One flagged box can wipe out the profit on several sales. Illustrative only: on a $25 sale, Poshmark's 20% fee leaves you $20. A $50 hazmat charge on that order turns it into a $30 loss.

The risk sits mostly in packaging, not products. Resellers who reuse shipping boxes from beauty, cleaning or aerosol products are the most exposed.

Who is affected

What to do now

  1. Before October 19, check your box stash. Remove or fully cover every old hazmat label and marking.
  2. Look for the small black-and-white "Limited Quantity" diamond. Poshmark says it is easy to miss and often sits on beauty, aerosol and cleaning product boxes.
  3. If you are unsure about a box, use a new box or poly mailer. A new mailer costs far less than a $50 fee.
  4. For electronics, follow Poshmark's electronics shipping guide.
  5. Rerun your per-item profit with the reseller fee calculator. We keep the marketplace fee tracker current.
