The short version
- Etsy is testing printed items made from digital files that buyers bought on Etsy. A third-party shop, Ventur Editions, prints, ships and handles customer service, and its prints are separate orders with their own listings and reviews.
- Eligible digital listings from shops based in the US or Canada may be included unless the seller opts out.
- Etsy has confirmed to Value Added Resource that the original designer gets no extra pay when a buyer orders a print.
- You can opt out for the whole shop in Shop Manager, Settings, Options.
What changed
Etsy's seller help page "How Printed Items From Digital Purchases Work for Sellers" says Etsy is testing a way for buyers to turn eligible digital files they bought on Etsy into printed items. Ventur Editions, a third-party print provider, sells and fulfills those items. Etsy's buyer help page lists wall tapestries, framed and rolled posters, matte canvases, metal signs, mugs, canvas tote bags, greeting cards and sweatshirts. After a purchase, the buyer sees "View print options" on the order page, picks the file and checks out with Ventur Editions.
Value Added Resource reported on October 13, 2026 that Ventur Editions is powered by FYUL, the parent company of Printify and Printful, that Etsy announced the test in September without naming the provider, and that Etsy confirmed creators receive no additional compensation for prints of their designs. No prices, fees or end date for the test have been published.
What it means for your business
The print is a second sale, and it is not yours. A worked example (illustrative): a US seller sells a $6.99 printable with free delivery. Etsy takes a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee ($0.45) and payment processing of 3% + $0.25 ($0.46), about $1.11 in all, so the seller keeps about $5.88 before tax and costs. If that buyer then orders a printed poster of the same design from Ventur Editions, the seller earns $0 more on it.
Two more things to weigh. First, if you planned to sell printed versions yourself, this test can take that sale before you ever list one. Second, prints have their own reviews on the Ventur Editions order, and Etsy's help pages do not say whether it checks your license terms before printing.
Our call: if you sell, or plan to sell, physical versions of your designs, or your license limits how buyers may print your files, opt out. If you only sell digital files and never plan to print them, staying in costs you nothing directly, but it earns you nothing either.
Who is affected
- Etsy sellers whose shop is based in the US or Canada and who sell digital downloads that meet the print partner's quality requirements.
- Shops that already offer a physical version of the design, or use their own print-on-demand integration, are not included.
- Buyers can still upload files they downloaded to Ventur Editions themselves, even from shops that opted out.
What to do now
- Decide whether to opt out. The switch is shop-wide, not per listing: Shop Manager, Settings, Options, then under "Allow buyers to purchase digital prints" select Disabled.
- If you want the print sale yourself, list a physical version of your best-selling designs (your own print-on-demand integration also takes you out of the test). Our Printful vs Printify guide compares base costs.
- Check your license text. If it limits printing (sizes, quantities, commercial use), say so clearly in the listing and in the file.
- Run your digital listing prices through the free Etsy fee calculator so you know what each sale really leaves you. We keep the marketplace fee tracker current.
