Poshmark overweight packages: sellers pay $5 to $15 from October 26
From October 26, 2026, Poshmark deducts the label upgrade cost from your earnings when you ship a box over 5 lb on the standard label. What it costs per sale.

Starting October 26, 2026, Poshmark sellers who ship a package over 5 lb on the standard label will have the required upgrade cost deducted from their earnings: $5 for 5.01 to 10 lb, $10 for 10.01 to 15 lb and $15 for 15.01 to 25 lb, according to Poshmark's blog post of October 8. Our worked example: on a $25 sale that ships at 6 lb, the deduction takes a quarter of what the seller earns.

The short version
- From October 26, 2026, if a Poshmark package weighs more than 5 lb and ships on the standard label, "the required upgrade cost will be deducted from your earnings" (Poshmark blog, October 8, 2026).
- The amounts: $5 for 5.01 to 10 lb, $10 for 10.01 to 15 lb, $15 for 15.01 to 25 lb on one label, and the full USPS shipping cost over 25 lb.
- Weight means the packed box: Poshmark counts "the item and all packing materials, including the box, padding, and tape."
- Our worked example: a $60 pair of boots that ships at 7 lb leaves the seller $43 instead of $48, about 10% less.

What changed
Poshmark's blog post Shipping heavier items: how label upgrades work (October 8, 2026) says the standard Poshmark label covers packages up to 5 lb, and that sellers can buy an upgraded label for heavier boxes. It adds that starting October 26, 2026, for an overweight package shipped without an upgraded label, "the required upgrade cost will be deducted from your earnings."
| Packed weight (box and packing included) | Upgrade if you buy it | Deducted if you ship on the standard label, from Oct 26 |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 5 lb | $0 (standard label) | $0 |
| 5.01 to 10 lb | $5.00 | $5.00 |
| 10.01 to 15 lb | $10.00 | $10.00 |
| 15.01 to 25 lb, one label | Not available (split the box) | $15.00 |
| Over 25 lb, one label | Not available (split the box) | Full USPS shipping cost |
Source: Poshmark blog, October 8, 2026. Poshmark says the upgrade rates "are staying the same this season."
Upgraded labels only go up to 15 lb. For heavier orders Poshmark tells sellers to split the order into separate boxes, each with its own label; it says extra labels carry a separate fee but does not give the amount in the post. The post does not touch Poshmark's selling fees, which its seller guide gives as a flat $2.95 on sales under $15 and 20% at $15 and up.
Value Added Resource, which reported the change on October 17, describes it as the end of Poshmark covering the extra postage on overweight boxes. Poshmark has not said why it is making the change.
What it means for your business
Until now Poshmark covered the upgrade cost when a box over 5 lb went out on the standard label. From October 26 the seller pays it, taken from earnings after the sale. On cheap heavy items that is a big share of the profit. Here is what the deduction does to a few typical sales, using Poshmark's 20% fee and the amounts above:
| Illustrative sale | Price | Poshmark fee (20%) | Your earnings | Overweight deduction | Earnings after | Share of earnings lost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heavy coat, 6 lb packed | $25.00 | $5.00 | $20.00 | $5.00 | $15.00 | 25.0% |
| Boots, 7 lb packed | $60.00 | $12.00 | $48.00 | $5.00 | $43.00 | 10.4% |
| Bundle, 12 lb packed | $100.00 | $20.00 | $80.00 | $10.00 | $70.00 | 12.5% |
| Bundle, 18 lb on one label | $150.00 | $30.00 | $120.00 | $15.00 | $105.00 | 12.5% |
Illustrative examples. Earnings = price minus Poshmark's 20% fee, before what you paid for the item and packing.
The pattern: the cheaper the item and the heavier the box, the more the change hurts. A $25 item that ships at 6 lb loses 25% of its earnings, while a $150 bundle loses 12.5%. Boxes and padding count toward the weight, so a sturdy reused box can push a 4.5 lb item over the line.
This follows Poshmark's other shipping change this month: since October 19, sellers also pay the full $50 USPS hazmat fee on flagged packages (our brief).
Who is affected
- Poshmark sellers in the US who ship on the Poshmark USPS label, from October 26, 2026.
- Most exposed: shoes and boots, coats, bundles, home goods and anything sold cheap but heavy.
- The post does not mention Poshmark Canada, which uses different labels.
What to do now
- Weigh every packed box before you ship, on a kitchen or postal scale, with the box, padding and tape included.
- If the box is over 5 lb, buy the upgrade yourself: it costs the same, and you know the number before you ship.
- Over 15 lb: split the order into separate boxes, each with its own label, instead of one heavy box.
- For heavy items, build the upgrade into your price or shipping discount from now on.
- Rerun your per-item profit with the reseller fee calculator. We keep the marketplace fee tracker current.
