From October 22, 2026 to January 4, 2027, Mercari waives buyer-paid shipping on US orders of $50 or more that weigh 5 lb or less. Mercari tells sellers to review their listings before October 22, add package dimensions and switch to buyer-paid shipping so buyers get the offer at checkout.

The short version
- Mercari's holiday offer runs from October 22, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. PT to January 4, 2027 at 4:59 p.m. PT, on the US marketplace only. Free shipping is applied automatically at checkout.
- Single items qualify at $50 or more on a Mercari Best Rate prepaid label of 5 lb or less, in a box of no more than 1 cubic foot with a longest side of no more than 22 inches. USPS Priority Mail, UPS Ground and FedEx Home labels do not qualify.
- Bundles from one seller qualify on any carrier or rate if the subtotal after discounts is $50 or more and the combined weight is 5 lb or less.
- Mercari's page says listings need package dimensions and buyer-paid shipping. It does not say who covers the waived shipping or how it affects the seller's 10% fee.

What changed
Mercari's offer page, Free Shipping on orders $50+, says the offer covers the buyer-paid shipping charge on qualifying US purchases. The $50 minimum is measured on the item price or bundle subtotal after discounts or accepted offers, with taxes, fees and shipping left out. Weight is the greater of the actual and the dimensional weight, and packages must include dimensions.
For sellers, the page gives three steps before October 22: learn which items have Best Rate available, add package dimensions, and switch listings to buyer-paid shipping. Purchases made during the offer still qualify if they ship after January 4. Mercari can change or end the offer at any time.
Mercari's selling fee is 10% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping on listings created or updated since January 6, 2025, with no separate processing fee (Mercari help center). The offer page does not say whether that 10% applies to shipping the buyer no longer pays. Value Added Resource, which reported the offer on October 19, says Mercari has not disclosed how much it expects to spend on it.
What it means for your business
Buyers will look for the free shipping badge, so listings that miss it by a dollar or an inch can lose sales through the holidays. The two places sellers trip up are box size and discounts.
Box size. A single item needs a box of no more than 1 cubic foot, which is 1,728 cubic inches, and no side longer than 22 inches. Our check of some common boxes:
| Packed box (inches) | Volume (cubic inches) | Longest side | Qualifies on size? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 x 12 x 12 | 1,728 | 12 in | Yes, exactly 1 cubic foot |
| 14 x 10 x 12 | 1,680 | 14 in | Yes |
| 18 x 14 x 6 | 1,512 | 18 in | Yes |
| 16 x 12 x 10 | 1,920 | 16 in | No, over 1 cubic foot |
| 24 x 6 x 4 | 576 | 24 in | No, longest side over 22 in |
Illustrative boxes, checked against Mercari's limits for single items: no more than 1 cubic foot (1,728 cubic inches) and a longest side of no more than 22 inches. The packed label weight must also be 5 lb or less.
Discounts. The $50 is counted after bundle discounts and accepted offers, so a generous discount can push an order out of the offer:
| Illustrative bundle from one seller | Items | Bundle discount | Subtotal | Free shipping? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sweater + scarf, no discount | $53.00 | $0.00 | $53.00 | Yes (if 5 lb or less) |
| Same bundle, 10% off | $53.00 | $5.30 | $47.70 | No, under $50 |
| Same bundle, 5% off | $53.00 | $2.65 | $50.35 | Yes (if 5 lb or less) |
Illustrative. Mercari counts the subtotal after discounts or accepted offers; taxes, fees and shipping are left out.
On a $50 item, Mercari's 10% fee on the item price is $5.00, which leaves $45.00 before any fee on shipping. Pricing an item just under $50 now has a cost: buyers may pay $50 for the same thing with free shipping rather than $48 plus postage, so items listed in the mid to high $40s are worth a second look.
Who is affected
- Mercari US sellers, for purchases made from October 22, 2026 to January 4, 2027.
- Most affected: items priced around $50, bundles, and anything in a box near 1 cubic foot or 22 inches long.
- Heavier items (over 5 lb) and single items shipped on Priority Mail, UPS Ground or FedEx Home are outside the offer.
What to do now
- Before October 22, add package dimensions to your listings and check which items have Mercari Best Rate.
- Switch eligible listings to buyer-paid shipping, as Mercari asks, so buyers get the offer at checkout.
- Measure your usual boxes: length x width x height must be 1,728 cubic inches or less, with no side over 22 inches.
- Check bundle discounts and offers so the final subtotal stays at $50 or more.
