The short version
- eBay's currency conversion charge rises from 3% to 3.25% on October 14, 2026 for sellers registered in the US and Canada (eBay US and Canada selling fee pages, checked October 5, 2026).
- Australia follows on November 1, 2026 (3% to 3.25%) and the UK on December 1, 2026 (2.5% to 2.75%).
- It only applies when eBay converts money, for example when you sell on another country's eBay site. Your 13.6% + $0.40 final value fee does not change.
- eBay put the notice on its fee pages rather than in a Seller Update, so many sellers will miss it (Value Added Resource, October 3).
What changed
eBay's US selling fees page now says: "If your registered address is in the US, the seller currency conversion charge applied and retained by eBay is 3%" and "From October 14, 2026, the fee for sellers registered in US will increase to 3.25%." The eBay Canada page has the same wording for sellers registered in Canada, from the same date.
| Seller registered in | Today | New rate | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| US | 3% | 3.25% | Oct 14, 2026 |
| Canada | 3% | 3.25% | Oct 14, 2026 |
| Australia | 3% | 3.25% | Nov 1, 2026 |
| UK | 2.5% | 2.75% | Dec 1, 2026 |

eBay describes the charge as a fixed percentage added to the base exchange rate when it converts funds for listings created or sales completed on international eBay sites.
What it means for your business
If all your sales are on your home eBay site in your own currency, nothing changes for you.
If you sell cross-border, every converted sale costs a little more. Illustrative only: on $100 of sales that eBay converts, the charge goes from $3.00 to $3.25. On $2,000 a month of converted sales, that is $5 more a month.
For comparison, Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee when your listing currency differs from your payment account currency (Etsy Fees and Payments Policy, last updated October 5, 2026).
Who is affected
- US and Canadian eBay sellers who list on other eBay sites or are paid out in a different currency than they sell in.
- Australian sellers from November 1 and UK sellers from December 1.
- Not affected: sellers who only sell on their home eBay site in their own currency.
What to do now
- Check which of your sales come from other eBay sites and which currency you are paid out in.
- Rerun your cross-border prices in the reseller fee calculator and add 3.25% for sales eBay converts.
- On low-margin items sold abroad, check whether the extra 0.25 points still leave you a profit.
- We keep the marketplace fee tracker current as other countries switch.
Keep track of every change: Seller fees on eBay, Etsy, Poshmark, Depop, Vinted and Mercari, kept current.
