How does the 10% fee work?

Mercari takes 10% of the completed item price plus the shipping the buyer pays. If you offer free shipping, the buyer pays no shipping, so the fee is just 10% of the item price and you cover the label. If the buyer pays shipping, the fee is charged on that shipping too.

Mercari fee = 10% x (item price + buyer-paid shipping)
A $50 item, you pay shippingYou keep $45.00$5.00
You keepMercari fee
A $50 item where you pay the shipping label. Mercari takes $5.00 and you receive $45.00, before your label and what you paid for the item.
Shipping rates are changing

Shipping rates change on October 19, 2026 for Mercari prepaid labels. Because the fee is a percentage of buyer-paid shipping, higher shipping rates also mean a slightly higher fee on those orders.

How much do you keep on a $20, $50 and $100 sale?

Item priceFee if you pay shippingYou keep (before label)Fee if buyer pays $8 shippingYou keep (after $8 label)
$20.00$2.00$18.00$2.80$17.20
$50.00$5.00$45.00$5.80$44.20
$100.00$10.00$90.00$10.80$89.20

Examples only. Fee = 10% of the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. Sales tax is not included. The $8 label is a placeholder: your real label cost depends on weight, size and carrier. Neither column subtracts what you paid for the item.

If you want the exact figure for your own item, our free Mercari fee calculator uses the same rules and subtracts your item cost and label.

What does it cost to get paid?

Your sale money is released after the buyer rates the order. Cashing out to your bank by direct deposit is free, limited to one per day, and Mercari charges $2 only if a deposit request fails. Instant Pay sends money to an eligible debit card in about 30 minutes for a flat $3. For a $20 sale that is 15% on top of the 10% fee, so most sellers wait for the free option.

Did Mercari change its seller fees?

Yes, twice in a short time, which is why older articles disagree.

WhenWhat changed
Before 2024Sellers paid a selling fee plus payment processing (2.9% + $0.50 on items sold under the old structure)
2024Mercari removed its selling fee and moved the cost to buyers
January 6, 2025Mercari reintroduced a flat 10% seller fee, lowered the buyer fee to 3.6% and removed the separate processing fee and the ACH direct deposit fee
October 2026No change to the 10% seller fee or the 3.6% buyer fee. Prepaid label rates change on October 19, 2026

One side effect worth knowing: Mercari automatically deactivates listings that would have negative earnings under the current fees, so very cheap items with expensive shipping can disappear until you raise the price.

Mercari vs eBay, Poshmark and Depop: which keeps more?

PlatformFees on a $50 itemYou keep (after $8 label)
Mercari$5.80$44.20

Poshmark$10.00$40.00
Depop$2.36$47.64

Example: $50 item, buyer pays $8 shipping and your label costs $8 (on Poshmark the buyer pays the label separately). US standard fees as of October 2026, no store subscription, no ads or boosting.

What the seller keeps before the cost of the item, US standard fees as of September 2026. For eBay, Depop and Mercari we assume the buyer pays $8.00 shipping and your label costs the same, since those platforms charge fees on shipping. On Poshmark and Vinted the buyer pays for the label separately. Vinted's fee is paid by the buyer, so the seller keeps the full price. The highest amount for each price is in bold.

Mercari lands in the middle: cheaper than eBay and Poshmark on most sales, more expensive than Depop and Vinted, whose sellers pay little or nothing. The better question is where your buyers are. The same item can sell faster on a higher-fee app, so many sellers list in more than one place with a crosslisting app.
