How do you fill in a rent receipt?
- Number itGive each receipt the next number and write the date you got paid.
- Write who paid and how muchFill in the tenant's name, the amount in numbers and in words, and the property address.
- Add the period and methodWrite the rent period it covers, tick the payment method and fill in the balance due, if any.
- Sign and splitSign both copies, cut along the line, give the tenant copy to the tenant and keep the landlord copy.
Should you print Letter or A4?
The free English PDF is US Letter (8.5 x 11 in), the paper used in the US, Canada and Mexico. On A4 paper (210 x 297 mm), choose Fit to page in the print dialog and it prints with slightly wider margins. The full version on Etsy is a spreadsheet in English and Spanish that prints its receipts on Letter or A4.
Write the amount in words as well as in numbers, and never leave the balance due box empty: write 0 when the tenant is paid up. It makes the receipt much harder to alter.

Is the rent receipt template really free?

What should a rent receipt include?
The date, a receipt number, who paid, the amount, the property address, the rent period it covers, the payment method, any balance still due and the name and signature of the person who received the money.
Do landlords have to give rent receipts?
It depends on where the rental is. Some places require a receipt when rent is paid in cash or when the tenant asks for one. A receipt is a good record either way, so check your local rental rules.
Why are there two receipts on the page?
One is the tenant copy and one is the landlord copy. Fill in both the same way, sign both, cut along the line and keep your copy with your rental records.
Can I use it for cash rent?
Yes. Tick Cash as the payment method. Cash payments are the ones where a signed receipt matters most, for both sides.
