The short version
- Chinese New Year 2027 is Saturday, February 6, 2027, and factories typically slow down or close for 4 weeks or more around it. The messages that protect your order go out in October and November, not in January.
- Ask five things early: closing and reopening dates, the last order date, a written cargo-ready date, when to pay and when to inspect.
- Every line below has Chinese, pinyin and English, plus one full message you can copy and send today.
- After the holiday, check that workers are back, ask whether prices changed and watch the quality of the first batch.
When should you send each message?
Most problems around Chinese New Year come from asking too late. Use this order and send each message in its window:
| When (2026 to 2027) | What to send |
|---|---|
| October to early November | Ask for closing and reopening dates and the last order date |
| Mid to late November | Confirm the last pre-holiday order and a written cargo-ready date |
| December | Book the inspection and ask for production photos |
| Early January | Pay the balance and get written confirmation it arrived |
| About a week before February 6 | Send New Year greetings |
| Mid to late February | Check the restart date, staffing, prices and your order's place in the queue |
Typical planning windows for 2027, not official dates. China's official 2027 holiday schedule is usually published by the State Council in November.
How do you ask for the closing and reopening dates?
放假 (fàngjià) means to close for the holiday and 复工 (fùgōng) means to restart work. Ask both, plus the last day they take new orders:
| Chinese | Pinyin | English |
|---|---|---|
| Nín hǎo! Qǐngwèn guì chǎng èr líng èr qī nián Chūnjié shénme shíhou fàngjià? Shénme shíhou fùgōng? | Hello! When does your factory close for Chinese New Year 2027, and when do you reopen? |
| Fàngjià qián zuìhòu yì tiān jiēdān shì nǎ tiān? | What is the last day you take new orders before the holiday? |
| Is your pre-holiday production schedule already full? |
| Bàngōngshì hé gōngchǎng fàngjià shíjiān yíyàng ma? | Do the office and the factory close on the same dates? |
Offices often close later and reopen earlier than the workshop, so a salesperson may reply in February while production is still stopped. Our Chinese New Year 2027 shutdown guide has the full timeline.
How do you lock in the last order before the holiday?
出货 (chūhuò) means to ship out. 备妥日期 (bèituǒ rìqī) is the cargo-ready date. Get that date in writing, because it is the one your freight booking depends on.
| Chinese | Pinyin | English |
|---|---|---|
| Wǒmen xiǎng zài Chūnjié qián chūhuò, qǐngwèn xiànzài xiàdān lái de jí ma? | We want the goods shipped before Chinese New Year. If we order now, is there still time? |
| Rúguǒ jīntiān quèrèn dìngdān, zuì kuài shénme shíhou néng chūhuò? | If we confirm the order today, what is the earliest ship date? |
| Qǐng shūmiàn quèrèn huòwù bèituǒ rìqī. | Please confirm the cargo-ready date in writing. |
| Yuáncáiliào gòu ma? Xūyào tíqián bèiliào ma? | Do you have enough raw material? Should materials be bought in advance? |
| Rúguǒ jié qián zuò bu wán, qǐng tíqián gàosu wǒmen, wǒmen hǎo ānpái. | If it can't be finished before the holiday, please tell us early so we can plan. |

尾款 (wěikuǎn) is the balance payment. Finance teams and banks in China close for the official holiday too, so a payment sent in the last days before it can sit unconfirmed until it ends.
| Chinese | Pinyin | English |
|---|---|---|
| Wěikuǎn wǒmen dǎsuàn [date] qián fùqīng, kěyǐ ma? | We plan to pay the balance before [date]. Does that work? |
| Guì sī cáiwù Chūnjié shénme shíhou fàngjià? | When does your finance team stop work for the holiday? |
| Shōudào kuǎn hòu qǐng huífù quèrèn, xièxie. | Please confirm when you receive the payment. Thank you. |
| Yínháng xìnxī yǒu biànhuà ma? | Have your bank details changed? |
An email saying a supplier has a new bank account is a common payment scam. Before paying to new details, confirm them by phone or video call with someone you already know at the company.

How do you ask for an inspection before the factory closes?
验货 (yànhuò) means to inspect goods. Inspect before the break: after it, inspectors and factory staff are busy with the backlog.
| Chinese | Pinyin | English |
|---|---|---|
| Wǒmen xiǎng zài fàngjià qián ānpái yànhuò, [date] kěyǐ ma? | We'd like to arrange an inspection before the holiday. Does [date] work? |
| Máfan fā yíxià dàhuò de zhàopiàn hé shìpín. | Could you send photos and a video of the bulk goods? |
| Bāozhuāng hǎo yǐhòu qǐng pāi yíxià wàixiāng màitóu. | Once packed, please photograph the carton shipping marks. |

What New Year greeting should you send?
A short greeting about a week before the holiday is normal and appreciated. 2027 is the Year of the Goat (羊年, yáng nián).
| Chinese | Pinyin | English |
|---|---|---|
| Xīnnián kuàilè! Gǎnxiè nín guòqù yì nián de zhīchí, qīdài míngnián jìxù hézuò. | Happy New Year! Thank you for your support over the past year. We look forward to working together next year. |
| Zhù nín yáng nián dàjí, shēngyì xīnglóng! | Wishing you a great Year of the Goat and a thriving business! |
| Chūnjié yúkuài, héjiā xìngfú! | Happy Spring Festival, and happiness to your whole family! |
Send the greeting on its own. A New Year wish followed by a price question in the same message reads like the greeting was only an opener.
What do you ask after the holiday?
开工 (kāigōng) means production has started again. 产能 (chǎnnéng) is production capacity. Many factories reopen around the 8th day of the new year (February 13, 2027), but staffing often takes weeks to recover.
| Chinese | Pinyin | English |
|---|---|---|
| Nín hǎo! Xīnnián hǎo! Qǐngwèn gōngchǎng yǐjīng kāigōng le ma? | Hello, and happy new year! Has the factory restarted production? |
| Gōngrén dōu huílai le ma? Xiànzài chǎnnéng zhèngcháng ma? | Are all the workers back? Is capacity back to normal? |
| Wǒmen de dìngdān jié hòu shénme shíhou néng kāishǐ shēngchǎn? | When can our order start production after the holiday? |
| Jié hòu jiàgé yǒu tiáozhěng ma? | Have prices changed after the holiday? |
| Jié hòu dì yī pī huò, máfan duō zhùyì yíxià zhìliàng. | For the first batch after the holiday, please take extra care with quality. |
How do you read common holiday replies?
| Chinese | Pinyin | English |
|---|---|---|
| 年前 | nián qián | Before the new year, meaning before the holiday. |
| 年后 / 节后 | nián hòu / jié hòu | After the new year / after the holiday. |
| 初八开工 | chū bā kāigōng | We restart on the 8th day of the new year (February 13, 2027). |
| 正月十五以后 | zhēngyuè shíwǔ yǐhòu | After the 15th of the first month: the Lantern Festival, February 20, 2027. |
| 排单 / 排期 | pái dān / páiqī | The production queue / the production schedule. |
| 年底了,订单比较多 | niándǐ le, dìngdān bǐjiào duō | It's the end of the year and we have a lot of orders. |
| 工人还没到齐 | gōngrén hái méi dào qí | Not all the workers are back yet. |
| 放假期间有人值班 | fàngjià qījiān yǒu rén zhíbān | Someone is on duty during the holiday. |
"After the holiday" can mean anything from mid February to March. When you get 年后 as an answer, ask for an actual date: 具体是哪天? (jùtǐ shì nǎ tiān?), "Which date exactly?"

Saturday, February 6, 2027, the start of the Year of the Goat. The Lantern Festival, which traditionally ends the season, is February 20, 2027.
When should I message my supplier about Chinese New Year?
In October or early November. Ask for closing and reopening dates and the last order date then, and confirm the last pre-holiday order and its cargo-ready date by mid to late November.
How do I ask when a Chinese factory closes for the holiday?
(Qǐngwèn guì chǎng Chūnjié shénme shíhou fàngjià? Shénme shíhou fùgōng?), which asks when the factory closes for Chinese New Year and when it reopens.
How do you say Happy New Year to a Chinese supplier?
新年快乐 (xīnnián kuàilè) is Happy New Year. For 2027 you can add (Zhù nín yáng nián dàjí, shēngyì xīnglóng!): wishing you a great Year of the Goat and a thriving business.
